SST PL is the project of automated optical observation and tracking of objects in space in the competition announced by the National Centre for Research and Development (Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju). The system is going to consist of two telescopes: a wide-angle one and a narrow angle one, which together will monitor and track space objects and their entry into the atmosphere. The project executed by the consortium under the leadership of the Air Force Institute of Technology (Instytut Techniczny Wojsk Lotniczych). The members of the consortium are Creotech Instruments SA and the Military University of Technology (Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna). Creotech Instruments SA is responsible for the development and construction of high sensitivity cameras for the telescope with a narrow field of view to track space objects. The launch of the system is planned for 2017.
Observations of space objects allow to determine their orbits and the satellite’s entry to the atmosphere and its fall to Earth ahead of time, which reduces the losses caused by the accident.
