Radio Communication System – CERBER

Satellite network over planet Earth

The “CERBER Radio Communication System” project is co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021–2027 programme. Its aim is to develop a modern satellite communication system in the form of a software-defined radio (SDR) transceiver for the S-band and X-band, intended for missions carried out in Earth orbit. The solution will be developed to the SpaceVPX standard and will support the CCSDS standard, enabling its use in modern small satellites and in more demanding space communication systems.

The project involves research and development work on an SDR transceiver, including the design of the radio architecture, implementation of the CCSDS standard, development of data encryption and authentication mechanisms, and an analysis of the potential for applying post-quantum cryptography. Initiative also involves developing a testing and validation environment for prototypes under conditions close to the operational conditions of space systems, as well as adapting the solution to comply with applicable standards and requirements in the space sector.

“CERBER Radio Communication System” is aimed at small satellite integrators and operators, space agencies, public institutions, security sector entities and commercial customers seeking secure, flexible and efficient satellite communication systems. Its outcomes will also benefit entities developing satellite platforms in the 10–200 kg segment, for whom transmission security, interoperability and the ability to update radio parameters at the software level are key.

The project will result in the development of an advanced satellite radio communication system, which will expand Creotech Instruments S.A.’s product portfolio and support the development of independent European space technologies. CERBER aims to enable the construction of safer and more functional satellite systems, responding to the growing market needs in the areas of reliable communication, data protection and applications with heightened operational requirements.

The initiative is being implemented under the European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021–2027 programme.
